It's OFFICIALLY official - I'm a Twitter Addict. Unfortunately, I still have to work to do besides tweeting! Luckily there are some cool Firefox extensions out there to save the day, and allow me to stay on top of my tweeting habit while being productive at the same time. I've downloaded and tried three different Firefox add-ons today and i am ready to post my results!
Twitterbar Twitter bar is a lightweight add-on that lets you send Tweets from your location bar. It adds a twitter icon next you your "favorites star". All you have to do is type your tweet, and click on the icon and it sends your tweet to twitter. If you highlight the Twitter icon it will even let you know how many characters you have left til you hit the 140 character limit. This addon is great if you want to send a quick tweet to let people know whats on your mind. The only thing it's lacking is incoming communication - you can't view incoming tweets, @mentions or DM's. You can find and install TwitterBar here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4664
TwitterFox TwitterFox adds a small Twitter logo to the lower right hand corner of your Firefox status bar. All you have to do begin tweeting is to click on the logo, and you can start sending tweets, read @mentions and DM's. You can even tweet the URL of the website or blog that you are currently visiting. For full featured tweeting, this is the add-on to beat! Download and install TwitterFox from here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/5081
TwitKit TwitKit actually gives you the most options, but is also the slowest and takes up the most real estate on your browser. I virtually gives you all the main features of the Twitter website: Public Timeline, @mentions (formerly @replies), followers list, the ability to read DM's, you can view your profile and you can even use a URL shortening service (currently they suppoort bit.ly, tinyURL, is.gd, tr.im, and xrl.us) for tweeting long url. If you are looking for a powerful quasi-twitter experience, you might like this app. Download and install TwitKit here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6845
My personal choice is a combination of TwitterBar and TwitterFox. I can get the TwitKit experience with more by using a standalaone app like Twirl, which defeats the purpose of a browser add-in. For a Browser add-in, I want something light and flexible like TwitterBar and/or TwitterFox. TwitterBar lets me shoot off a quick tweet about whatever, and TwitterFox lets me see my Timeline, @mentions and DM's quickly and easily.Â
Try them all out and see which one works bets for you. Leave a comment and rate them here!
