Find your Niche! Thats seems to be one of the first pieces of advice "veteran" Bloggers give to newbies. Blog about what you love! My own catchphrase for this site is "Turn Your Passion Into Profit", but for the sake of this article I'm going to modify that into "Turn Your PROFITABLE Passion Into Profit!". The bottom line is, if your looking to make money from your blog, you need to Blog about topics that align well with high-payout affiliate categories.
Don't get me wrong - I'm all about blogging about your passion, but if your two favorite things are Chicken Wings and Web Hosting, I'm going to tell you to blog about Chicken Wings - just kidding. It's common sense - work smart, not hard. Most people reading this Blog probably don't have a lot of extra time on their hands with day jobs, errands, kids and spouses. Why waste the little time you have toiling away posting low margin affiliate ads and campaigns? What if you have bad click-through rates or no conversion? You justed wasted your time. Look at it like this - why post an ad with a $10.00 payout that gets converted 8 times for $80.00 vs posting a $100.00 ad that gets clicked once for $100.00?
"What categories provide the highest payout?" is probably your next question! I won't drag it out for you. Web Hosting, Online Printing Services, and Online Dating Services are just some of the categories provide EXTREMELY high payouts in comparison to other services. Have an existing Blog or are looking to create a new one? I suggest finding a way to Blog about a unique niche that ties into one of these categories to maximize on their high payouts.
Here are some idea's to start you off. Rather than making another generic dating blog, I'd go as far as video blog my own personal adventures on the dating scene, going on dates with people I met on these various dating services. Rather than making yet another online printing company feature comparison site I would actually create orders with all of them and blog about my experiences with different vendors. See where I'm going? Although I'm in it to make money, that doesn't mean it can't be creative or provide a value to my readers!
So here's my challenge to you - because it's all about taking action. Join an Affiliate Network (or two) and Search for high paying Affiliate Advertisers. Find a high paying Niche that you have a genuine interest in and brainstorm a unique twist on the concept. Purchase a domain, create you blog and begin posting (or video blogging) using your new innovative approach to the topic. Get on Twitter, Join Social Networking Groups that align with your topic and track your results. Post your results here or Twitter me (@mikewayne) to let me know how its going.
