The point of this Blog is to help you make money with your blog so let's get to it.  I'm going to show you one of the primary revenue generators for any profitable Blog out there, the Affiliate Ad Network.  An Affiliate Network is simply a Company that facilitates the relationship between advertisers and publishers (you).  They have a directories of companies that are looking for leads and sales from publishers to gain sales for their website.

A good example is a Toy site, such as Toys R Us.  Toysrus.Com realizes they can't possibly reach each and every person online looking for toys.  In order to reach as many targeting leads as possible they realize they need to advertise on other Toy Websites and Blogs, such as TooCooToys.Com [plug].  They get to choose if they want to pay for a lead, or a fully converted sale.  This way to save a ton of money from their advertising budget because they are only paying for paying customers.

Toys R Us as well as the vast majority of large companies doesn't want to manage hundreds, or thousands of affiliate partner relationships so they outsource this job to a Affiliate Network.  The Affiliate Network is responsible for handling tracking, payments, promotions and end users (you). There are actually quite a few networks out there with different approaches and payouts.  I personally recommend starting with some of the larger, older companies to learn the ropes before venturing out with the smaller networks.

Two of the oldest and largest Affiliate Networks are Commission Junction and Linkshare.  I am a member of both sites and I can tell you they pretty much run the campaigns for 80% of the Fortune 500 companies.  If you are looking to carry the ads of the "big names" you will definitely find them with CJ and Linkshare.
To sign up with Commission Junction simply go to https://signup.cj.com/member/publisherSignUp.do and to sign up with http://www.linkshare.com/publishers/join/.  They have easy to understand "dashboards" and plenty of resources to help you navigate the world of Affiliate Marketing.

Once you get approved, you have to figure out what kind of topics you want to advertise to maximize on your audience.  If you Blog about Cars you would not want to display ads for Nail Polish!  You would want to display ads for car accessories and car companies to keep your ads relevant.  It may seem like common sense, but I've advised way too many clients and friends who simply want to post ads with the highest commissions.  You only why Google is doing so well? RELEVANT, TARGETED ADS!

Once you have figured out your "Ad Niche" you then have to figure out what kind of campaign you want to run - a landing page, banner, text ad or email campaign.  In the beginning, I would suggest trying the same ad on various mediums to figure out which one is giving you the best results.  That's not to say to only focus on one medium - diversity is the key to not burning out your audience.  After getting comfortable running campaigns on different mediums, you should start executing campaigns with specific goals and financial objectives.

A final thing you need to remember is to continually refresh your ad placement and marketing technique.  People will start to get used to your same old approach and will not be interested in clicking on your sponsors if you advertise in the "same old" way month after month.  A good method would to be figure out your product niche, set a financial goal, and select the campaign media (landing page, blog post, email, etc) and EXECUTE THE HELL OUT OF IT!

Don't be discouraged by low sales - you WILL eventually "learn the ropes" and that's when the real money comes in.  If it was easy to make money Blogging, then you wouldn't be reading this post or waking up early for work in the morning.  The only way to turn your passion into profit is to dive in and start joining the affiliate networks and creating campaigns today!
