One of the questions I get asked the most is “which content management system is the best”? I hate this question! Many web designers take a hard line stance on the “best” but I often find their choice is based on what they are the most comfortable using. The truth is, each CMS out there has its strengths and weaknesses.
For blogs, I am personally the most comfortable using Wordpress. In my opinion, I think it’s the most powerful and easy to use right out of the box. Did I also mention that it’s free? You can either run it from Wordpress.Com, which is a free hosted solution (which basically means you don’t have to buy your own domain name or pay any web hosting fee’s) or you can download the application from Wordpress.Org and host it on your own server with your own domain name.
I recommend Wordpress.Com for beginners. There is no financial risk, and you can get comfortable to the medium. Then when you get comfortable you can move to your own web host and export your post to it so your old work will not be lost! The only major downside in my opinion is you will probably have a very long URL to access your blog, like myblog.wordpress.com. Since Wordpress is so popular, most of the short and easy names are taken.
In part two of this post I will review another popular blogging solution, Blogger which is owned by Google.
