Why keeping it real is better than playing it safe....

Your New and Don't Want to Piss People Off
Most new bloggers don't want to step on toes, alienate visitors or piss anyone off.  This is why they are new and their blogs suck.  Who wants to real the same old plain vanilla blog, with no unique voice or vision? PC = Boring.  If people only wanted to hear one point of view, we would all only have one friend.  Variety is the spice of life.   You need to be PAINFULLY honest, and don't be afraid to be passionate about something you agree or disagree with.  Otherwise, you'll just bore the hell out of people and they'll go read fun blogs like TMZ or asses like Perez Hilton.

Your Afraid Of Negative Feedback
What would you rather have - negative feedback or NO feedback?  Negative feedback means not only is someone reading your content, but they are so fired up about it that they took valuable time out of their lives to post their opinion.  Time that could have been spent playing Halo or reading another blog.  Don't be afraid of controversy! It creates traffic.

Your Afraid To Be Yourself
Are you afraid that if your visitors knew the real, boring you that they would go running to the hills? Probably so.  But who gives a damn? You'll not only be a disservice to your readers, but to yourself by not being yourself.  Another side effect of being yourself is that you'll attract the type of people you want to surround yourself with anyway - those that accept the real you.  So if you want to blog about cheese, eat your heart out! A blogger by the name of Gary V just got a six figure book deal by blogging about Wine.  Someone out likes what you like, so feel free to be you!

Why "Safe" is Boring

Why do good girls like bad guys? Because they are unpredictable and interesting!  They don't know what to expect from them.  If you keep posting the same boring shit every week, why should I come back to your site? Spice up your content, change it up, and don't censor yourself! There's always something a little creepy about the guy or gal thats TOO nice - like the Stepford Wives! An occasional F-Bomb here and there for emphasis never hurt anyone after all! If you hate the Red Sox (like i do) don't be afraid to say it!

Why "The Cult Of Personality" is Your Biggest Asset

Ever wonder why people like Oprah, Rush Limbaugh and Barack Obama are so goddamned popular? It's called "The Cult Of Personality".  Something about them draws the masses to them.  Maybe it's awe, maybe it's envy, or maybe people just wish they could do or say the things that these personalities can.  All three of these indivduals have built a "Cult Of Personality" around them.  You need to build a "Cult Of Personality" around YOU to take your blog and your brand to the next level.  If you don't, you'll just be another nameless, faceless, nobody blogger wasting comment space on John Chow's message board.  Don't worship the Gary V's, the John Chow's or Darren Rowse's of the world - become the next one.  Don't let your blog suck ass either.

If this post struck a cord and got you off your ass, please leave a comment or a tweet to let me know!
